Milton Keynes Mayor praises city’s business community

Region is a ‘land of opportunity’ says First Citizen.

The Mayor of Milton Keynes has praised the city’s business community saying that the way in which local companies work together is the reason for MK’s success.

Speaking at a Meet of MK business gathering recently, James Lancaster – Milton Keynes’ youngest ever Mayor – celebrated his first six weeks in office by paying tribute to business owners and managers across the city.

“I’m so honoured to be the city’s mayor,” said Councillor Lancaster to a packed room in MK’s PopWorld nightclub.

“I have done so much in the first six weeks of this role and it’s an honour to do it. I have enjoyed it and that’s no thanks to anyone else except every single one of you in this room.

“You are the guys who have made a difference to this city, to allow it to be so diverse, so innovative and so different from other cities. Milton Keynes is a land of opportunity.”

The success of the city doesn’t happen by mistake, he added, saying that the positive effect is down to ‘people who want to make a difference and work together in collaboration, helping each other’.

“Carry on working with each other,” said James. “Have those conversations, that’s the best way of being able to spend your money. It really makes that much difference, So many people here I recognise, and I see them doing what they can for this city.

“It’s a beautiful city and I could not be prouder of all the businesses, everyone in this room.

He also highlighted his chosen charity for the year, Camphill in Milton Keynes and another charity collecting on the night, Medical Detection Dogs. The Mayor added that anyone making a donation to Camphill will get a personally handwritten letter of thanks from him.
