Milton Keynes Marathon Weekend has announced that the only ambassador for the 2025 marathon will be a World Record holder.

Yesterday, August 26, Milton Keynes Marathon Weekend announced that Steve Edwards, best known for running 1,000 marathons and having a World Record, will be the “one and only” ambassador for the 2025 Marathon.

Steve Edwards said, "The 2024 Milton Keynes Marathon Weekend was an incredibly special event for Team Edwards and all being well, I'm hoping to be on the start line again in 2025. Who would like to join me on the start line on Monday, May 5th, 2025 for what I'm sure will be another incredible day."

In April this year, Steve ran his 1,000th marathon in Milton Keynes. He chose the race due to how it ended inside Stadium MK, knowing it would feel significantly different from the other 999 finish lines he’s crossed.

Steve has competed in official marathons all his life, and his 3:21:47 average finishing time set a new World Record for the fastest cumulative time to complete 1,000 marathons. The April 2024 MK marathon was a farewell record to join the countless others he had amassed since completing his first marathon 43 years ago.

The news of Steve as the 2025 ambassador came after the introduction of the 2025 MK Marathon route. The route is set to showcase the charm and beauty of the original villages that make up the city.

Runners will pass through five original villages, each one boasting ancient churches and cottages that date back centuries and leafy lanes, providing a breathtaking view for runners as they challenge themselves to complete the route. The route is set to offer a blend of tree-lined city boulevards, quaint village charm, and picturesque scenery.

Milton Keynes Marathon Weekend said, “Lace up your running shoes, take in the historic surroundings, and enjoy a truly memorable race through the heart of Milton Keynes.”

The Marathon Weekend will take place during the Early May Bank Holiday weekend. Runners can challenge themselves to the Rocket 5K on Sunday, May 4, and also have the option to complete either the Marathon Relay, Half Marathon, or Marathon on Monday, May 5.
