Milton Keynes man to climb Snowdon Mountain for charity

A Milton Keynes man, along with eleven of his colleagues, aims to reach the summit of Snowdon Mountain in hopes of raising awareness and funds for research charity.

Snowdon, also known as Yr Wyddfa in Welsh, is the highest mountain in England and Wales, with a height of over 3,500 feet. On foot, it takes approximately seven hours to get there and back.

On Saturday, August 17, Milton Keynes resident, Andy Owens, in addition to eleven of his colleagues from The Perfume Shop Logistics team, is aiming to reach the summit of Snowdon Mountain, located in North Wales, in hopes of increasing awareness of dementia and raise vital funds for the charity, Alzheimer’s Research UK.

Andy told MKFM, “Over the past decade fundraising has become a way of life for me, these charities desperately need our help. Last year I trekked to Everest Base Camp to raise money for Alzheimer’s Research UK, however, this year I was keen to do something as a team, to encourage some of my colleagues to help support this great cause.”

Alzheimer's Research UK is the UK’s leading dementia and Alzheimer's disease research charity. Since 1992 when the charity was founded, Alzheimer's Research UK has funded scientists who have made significant breakthroughs in dementia but still have a lot to do.

Andy said, “I know firsthand how dementia can impact lives; my wife and I have both lost loved ones who have been affected by it and my Nan is also living with dementia. Over the past few years, I have met many people who can all tell their own stories about how dementia has impacted their families. It’s important we find a cure.”

Andy has visited Snowdon Mountain before, but for his colleagues, it will be their first time facing the challenge, all for a great cause.
