A local Milton Keynes man is providing free bicycle repairs for anyone in the city that needs it, including cycling to their homes if needed.
Daniel Thomas moved to Milton Keynes just over two years ago following some drastic life changes. Not longer after moving to the city, Daniel lost his welding job due to a decline in his mental health.
To help improve his mental health, Daniel attempted to get the right treatment and support, but found it was only causing him more anxiety and stress, so much so that the only time he felt like he could keep on going was when he was on a bicycle.
Daniel told MKFM, “Cycling has become a kind of therapy for me, it helps me feel alive. Since losing my job, almost all my time was taken by riding and working on my bikes.”
One day while scrolling through The Official Milton Keynes Noticeboard on Facebook, Daniel came across a post asking for some help repairing a bicycle. The post inspired Daniel and sparked up the idea to cycle to people across the city who need help with their bikes and to do it for free.
Daniel said, “Not only do I still get to ride my bikes all day, but I get to help others to get out on their bikes too. I'm a big believer in community activism and doing things to better the community as a whole without expecting to gain something from it personally.”
“I do this entirely for the love of cycling and the community. Since the first announcement, I have met some incredible people and got to work on a huge variety of bikes. Everyone I've met has been so friendly, which has also had a huge positive impact on my mental health”, Daniel concluded.
Daniel has a Facebook page called Level Head Cycles where he posts pictures of the bikes he has built and worked on. People are free to message him there about community repairs or a custom bike build.
