A Milton Keynes man has been left with a costly bill for dumping rubbish illegally in the new city.
John Sunter, 43, of Burnet, Stantonbury, has been ordered to pay £578 in fines and costs after dumping a sofa and other household items on a grass area near his home, in the early hours of January 8.
Sunter failed to co-operate with the city council’s investigation or to appear when required at Milton Keynes Magistrates Court, so a warrant was placed, and he was arrested.
He pleaded guilty to the charges, (dumping a sofa) and on December 1, Magistrates set a fine of £120 and ordered him to pay the city council’s legal and investigation costs of £410 plus a victim surcharge of £48.
“Dumping rubbish and creating a mess in our communities is just unacceptable,” said Councillor Jennifer Wilson-Marklew, Cabinet Member for the Public Realm, “Almost all local residents readily take responsibility for their unwanted household items, whether that means using a recycling centre, contacting a local charity to collect, or some other means.
"We will not tolerate offenders who ruin our green spaces.”
