Milton Keynes landmark to light up in support of Kawasaki Disease

Hotel La Tour is among 140 buildings across the UK which will be spectacularly lighting up to raise awareness of Kawasaki Disease  on Monday, which is International Kawasaki Disease Awareness Day.

The serious but little known children’s illness is the number one cause of acquired heart disease in UK children and about a quarter of all children affected will go on to have lifelong heart damage, despite treatment.

Around 1,500 UK hospital admissions for Kawasaki Disease will happen this year. Once considered a rare disease, incidence is rapidly rising globally, and it is now increasingly common - more so than some forms of meningitis.

Societi was established in 2015 and is an influencing and policy shaping organisation which works through partnerships to drive transformational change in awareness across the UK, about the disease.

Children affected by Kawasaki Disease have a much greater chance of a good recovery with quick diagnosis and rapid treatment.
