Milton Keynes hospital praised by country’s nurse head

Awards presented by chief nursing officer in visit.

The chief nursing officer for England has visited Milton Keynes University Hospital to talk to staff and present awards for outstanding service.

Nursing and midwifery teams at the hospital welcomed Duncan Burton to the trust last week, where he saw first-hand some of the highlights of MKUH’s contributions to nursing and midwifery leadership, innovation and patient care.

He also presented Chief Nursing Officer (CNO) for England Awards to teams and individuals to reflect their outstanding service to nursing.

After meeting with chief executive officer Joe Harrison, Duncan Burton visited the Maple Centre to witness the hospital’s SDEC (Same Day Emergency Care) service in action. He talked to nursing colleagues about the detailed work going on in diverse areas from education, training, research and development.

“Duncan Burton’s visit gave us a fantastic opportunity to showcase some of the excellent care and initiatives by our nursing teams,” said Fiona Hoskins, MKUH chief nursing officer. “It was a very proud moment to be able to put such good practice and innovation into the spotlight.”

“I was impressed by the passion and energy I saw from the nurses, midwives and healthcare support workers I met today and it’s clear that MKUH has some very dedicated nursing and midwifery teams,” said Duncan Burton.

“The CNO for England Awards I presented to colleagues recognised this and the work they have led to improve care and experiences for patients and families.”

He presented six CNO for England Silver Awards to the following individuals and teams, citing their commitment to patient care:
