Milton Keynes Hospital in nurses’ day recognition

City’s medical centre marks international day with Florence Nightingale lamp.

Milton Keynes University Hospital staff have joined millions of people around the world today to celebrate International Nurses' Day.

The annual day of recognition highlights the dedication, compassion and expertise of nurses across the globe.

MK nurses were invited to take part in a day of learning, with events, quizzes and celebration all planned, and prizes and treats donated by local businesses.

“International Nurses' Day is an opportunity to celebrate all nursing staff, and recognise their expertise and dedication,” said Fiona Hoskins, MKUH chief nursing officer.

“MK is home to thousands of nurses who work in a wide range of roles and specialisms, at clinics, centres and surgeries in the community as well as here at the hospital. Today we shine a light on all of them.”

Fiona also marked the special day by touring the hospital wards with a lamp to symbolise the lasting legacy of Florence Nightingale who is recognised as the founder of modern nursing.
