People in Milton Keynes have been advised to seek help if they are showing cancer symptoms, as half of the British public are now reporting concerns with getting checked.

One in 10 people would not contact their GP even if they had a lump or a new mole which did not go away after a week, a survey has found.

Another third of people would worry about seeking help, according to polling carried out by Portland.

Getting coronavirus or giving it to their family were among the top reasons that people would not come forward when they have cancer symptoms along with fears that they could be a burden to the health service.

However, Milton Keynes University Hospital has encouraged people to contact their GP should they have any concerns or symptoms. All Cancer Services at the Hospital remain open and running, with a new helpline also being launched for patients.

The Cancer Services team are working hard to protect patients who have been referred to them, or remain under their care, by operating clinics over the phone wherever possible and appropriate. This includes consultation with doctors, specialist nurses, the psychologist, the physiotherapist, the dietitian, and wellbeing nurses.

Staff and volunteers within the Cancer Centre are also adhering to the Government's guidelines regarding personal protective equipment (PPE).

Those who have questions and queries about Cancer Services and concerns regarding to COVID-19 and how it impacts their appointments have been encouraged to call the Patient Helpline. The helpline is open Monday to Friday from 9am to 5pm. The number is: 01908 997634.
