Milton Keynes Hospital CEO highlights avenues for staff to raise concerns about patient care

The Chief Executive at Milton Keynes Hospital, Joe Harrison, has used his weekly message to staff to highlight the avenues available to them to raise concerns about clinical and patient safety.

The news comes after the Hospital said earlier this week that it was facing 'extreme pressure' and that patients should only attend in emergency situations.

A number of unconfirmed Twitter reports also raised various concerns about patient care, although these have been denied by officials.

In his message to staff, Mr Harrison said: "Staff reporting concerns will be supported, so please do make sure you report anything you are concerned about promptly. If you are not listened to or your concern is not taken seriously and you remain worried, report it again to a more senior manager, or to an executive director like me."

"I would also like to thank every member of staff working so very hard in what I know are at times very challenging circumstances. I am always proud of the way the organisation pulls together in times of pressure; putting patients first and doing the very best possible to make sure we provide safe care."

He also said that he expects this 'challenging time' for the Hospital to continue throughout January.
