Milton Keynes gets ready to welcome thousands of football fans

    Thousands of football fans are set to arrive in Milton Keynes today (8/7) for the first of four Women's EURO 2022 games at Stadium MK.

    Later on today, Milton Keynes is set to be front and centre of the biggest women’s European sport event in history after being hand-picked as one of nine host cities for the hotly anticipated UEFA Women’s EURO 2022. 

    Stadium MK, home to MK Dons, is hosting four games in total, including an all-important Semi-Final game.

    Kicking off the events at Stadium MK TODAY is Spain vs Finland, with around 15,000 fans predicted to attend.

    Denmark vs Finland will then take to the stadium on July 12th, Finland vs Germany on July 16th and the huge Semi Final on July 27th.

    All nine host cities across England, including Milton Keynes, are gearing up for a series of exciting events for fans to help them get involved in the sporting event.

    On all local match days, a carnival-like Fan Party is being held at Station Square in Central Milton Keynes, which will be fully decorated in tournament colours.

    This will be where thousands of supporters arriving by train and car will join local families, groups, and other fans to soak up the atmosphere and enjoy music, films and other entertainment, a family fun zone, refreshments, and football-themed exhibitions.

    From Station Square, fans will be able to make their way to Stadium MK via dedicated shuttle buses.

    Some road closures will also be in place across Milton Keynes on match days, for the safety of fans, staff and the public.

    On game days (8th July 2022, 12th July 2022, 16th July 2022 and 27th July 2022) the following roads will be closed:

    • V7 Saxon Street, Bletchley - from its junction with Standing Way to its junction with Bletcham Way Whilst the above closure is in place the alternative route will be via Bletcham Way, Grafton Street, Standing Way (and vice versa)
    • Dawson Road, Bletchley - From its junction with Saxon Street to its junction with Grove Ash Whilst the above closure is in place the alternative route will be via Bond Avenue (and vice versa)

    A temporary 40mph speed limit restriction will be in place on match days:

    • V6 Grafton Street - from the junction of H8 Standing Way to the junction of V4 Watling Street
    • V7 Saxon Street from the junction of H8 Standing Way to the junction of H10 Bletcham Way
    • H9 Groveway from junction of V6 Grafton Street to V7 Saxon Street
    • Dawsons Road from junction of V7 Saxon Street to junction of Bond Avenue
