999 calls to remote areas faster and more agile.
Two new rural firefighting vehicles (RFVs) have been introduced for Milton Keynes and Buckinghamshire in a move designed to enhance safety and emergency response in more remote communities.
The off-road vehicles, introduced by Buckinghamshire Fire & Rescue Service, are designed to bring faster, more agile fire and rescue capabilities to rural areas.
Where narrow country lanes, dispersed populations, and limited access to water sources can complicate traditional firefighting efforts, the new rural vehicles are specifically equipped to overcome these obstacles.
They have a cutting-edge ‘Mist-Tech’ pump system, 4x4 off-roading capabilities, and specialist wildfire kit onboard. They are introduced as part of the service’s commitment to protecting every community.
Initially based at the Chesham and High Wycombe Fire Stations, the units will have the flexibility to be repositioned if needed to ensure the best possible cover across the county.
They will respond swiftly to incidents such as agricultural fires, barn and outbuilding blazes, road accidents in remote areas, and medical emergencies where time is critical.
And with the UK experiencing increasingly warmer and drier summers, the risk of wildfires has grown significantly. The new rural vehicles are equipped with specialist gear, giving crews quick access to the tools they need.
“We are pleased to be investing in our rural capabilities across Buckinghamshire and Milton Keynes,” said Project Lead Aaron Ridgley.
“We’re not only addressing current gaps, but we’re also preparing for future challenges. Climate change, evolving risks, and the need for community-based solutions demand a more flexible and responsive approach. Together, we’re building a smarter, safer future.”
