Gulliver’s Land collection weekend brings thousands of items.
A special theme park weekend designed to collect much-needed food for Milton Keynes families has been hailed a great success.
MK’s popular theme park Gulliver’s Land hosted a ‘Food Bank Weekend’ earlier this month, to encourage visitors to donate items of food in return for discounted entry tickets.
It was one of a series of similar projects held by the park to bring valuable assistance to the Milton Keynes Food Bank charity.
And the most recent event brought an astonishing 4,200 items of food to the good cause, which provides short-term crisis support and care for families and individuals living in MK.
The latest weekend gave park-goers tickets reduced to £14, instead of the usual £25, when they brought a non-perishable item of food to donate. Items given included tinned fruit, jars of coffee, long life milk, tinned meat, tinned spaghetti, cream crackers, juice cordials and tinned custard.
“We are so grateful to Gulliver’s Land for continuing to host the Food Bank Weekends for us,” said Louisa Hobbs, Operations Manager, MK Food Bank.
“They are always so successful; every time we collect the donations we’re astonished by the generosity of the community. Last week we collected an incredible 4,200 items, enough to support over 250 families and individuals with food.
“We are helping thousands of people through tough times right now and to see the people of Milton Keynes supporting their community in this way is truly heart-warming. Thank you to everyone who donated from all of us here.”
The theme park in Milton Keynes has now delivered the donated items to MK Food Bank.
“We are pleased to be able to support the fantastic work of the MK Food Bank, which was established in 2004 as a direct response to growing food poverty in the area,” said Sue Conway, resort director at Gulliver’s Land.
“Based on past experience, we know that the families who visit Gulliver’s Land are keen to show their support too.”
