A family dog from Milton Keynes has made a remarkable recovery after vets at the Milton Keynes Veterinary Group discovered a 10cm wooden kebab skewer embedded in a wound.
Hector, normally a lively and happy companion, had been under the care of the practice after suddenly becoming unwell. Initial blood tests were carried out straight away, and over the next few days his owners noticed a lump on his side. Very quickly, the swelling changed in appearance and then burst open, leaving a visible wound.
Already in the care of the Milton Keynes Veterinary Group, Hector was promptly examined by vet Joanna, who sedated him to investigate — and made a shocking discovery. Protruding from the opening was a sharp piece of wood, which turned out to be an intact kebab skewer around 10cm long.
“It was a very interesting case, and quite a surprise when I realised what it was,” said vet Joanna at Milton Keynes Veterinary Group. “Incredibly, the skewer had missed all of Hector’s vital organs. He was very lucky.”
Hector underwent surgery to ensure there was no further damage and, after some recovery time, is now back to his happy self.
His owners said they were concerned and puzzled by what was happening, as they had no idea he had scavenged the kebab stick.
Thanks to careful attention and expert treatment at Milton Keynes Veterinary Group, Hector is now feeling well again and enjoying life as usual.
