Milton Keynes Council hopes its newly-revealed plan will contribute to a 'fair and prosperous' economic recovery.
The ambitious plan, which was published yesterday (9/6), has five areas of priority, including delivering high-quality essential services, affordable housing for all, and providing support to businesses and high streets.
The plan also covers everything from investing over £3m to support Milton Keynes businesses, to working with the centre:mk to protect and renew the city centre, to delivering improvements to CMK market.
A programme of improvements and investment will be brought forward to help the city’s high streets, local centres and independent retailers.
This plan has been put together by the Labour and Lib Dem Coalition, called 'The Progressive Alliance', which has recently gained leadership of the Council.
Councillor Robin Bradburn, Liberal Democrat Progressive Alliance Cabinet Member for Economy, Recovery and Renewal, said: “As we look to the recovery of our city, it is important that we always aim to be fair and green, and to deliver a recovery that is truly prosperous. Businesses, high streets, residents who are unemployed and those looking to reskill all need support, and this Plan provides that.”
Councillor Rob Middleton, Labour Progressive Alliance Cabinet Member for Resources, added: “MK’s businesses and residents have had such a hard time because of the pandemic and lockdowns. We have listened to these concerns and are committed to making sure our recovery is successful.”
As part of the plan, it has also been announced that Milton Keynes Council will be bidding for city status in the Queen's Civic Honours competition.
