Milton Keynes Council safeguard Santander HQ build project with land deal

Milton Keynes Council has completed a deal to safeguard Santander’s new UK HQ build project in Central Milton Keynes.

The deal between the Council, The Parks Trust, and Santander will see land sold to the bank build in order to ensure a new state-of-the-art headquarters campus for more than 6,000 employees.

This opens up development opportunities on the bank’s other Milton Keynes sites, which will be a further boost to the local economy in the recovery from COVID-19.

The new United Kingdom head office is due to open by the Autumn of 2022 and complements the Council’s ambitious plans for Central Milton Keynes, including the world-class university MK:U, pioneering work and leisure spaces, and new affordable homes, and work to help MK recover economically from Covid-19.

Leader of Milton Keynes Council, Pete Marland, commented: "As we assess the impact of COVID-19 to our local economy, this deal sends out a clear message that MK is very much open for business."

"It’s encouraging to see work progressing at Santander’s new HQ which will retain thousands of jobs in MK and create new employment opportunities."

He concluded: "My thanks go out to council colleagues for their work on this deal and I look forward to further developing our exciting proposals for CMK."
