Milton Keynes Council is paying tribute to its teams of social workers and encouraging others to find out more about a career in social care this World Social Work Day.

Milton Keynes' social workers work with some of the most vulnerable children, adults and families. More than 2,200 children and young people and 1,500 adults have received help from specialist teams over the past year.

They are often working in partnership with NHS health professionals and other local agencies.

Some residents have extremely complex needs, and social workers make sure they are receiving the right support and care as well as providing advice.

The adult social care team also works with people who are leaving hospital but need extra help and sometimes equipment to settle back into their home and stay independent.

This year, over 2,500 local people have received this kind of help.

Councillor Zoe Nolan, Cabinet Member for Children and Families said: “Our social workers do an incredible and often difficult job.  I’m so proud of my colleagues who worked tirelessly throughout the pandemic and continue to ensure that vulnerable people of all ages are supported in Milton Keynes.”

“Social work provides opportunities to work with adults, children and families and we know the enormous impact they can have.  If you share our passion for social care and are looking for a rewarding career, we’d love to hear from you.”

MK Council has a dedicated website for anyone interested in pursuing or developing a career in social care.

There is information around support, training and career opportunities plus videos from colleagues who share their own experiences.
