The Parks Trust and MK City Council announce this year’s litter poster competition winners!
The Parks Trust and Milton Keynes City Council would like to congratulate the two winners of this year’s litter poster competition, Phillipa from Whitehouse Primary School and Teddy from Swallowfield Primary School for their winning entries! Their posters will be displayed across the parks cared for by The Parks Trust and in parish council spaces.
The competition, jointly run by the Milton Keynes City Council Waste and Recycling Team and The Parks Trust, aims to remind people to look after their green spaces and take their litter home. More than 10,000 sacks of litter are collected each year by The Parks Trust cleansing team which suggests litter is an ongoing city-wide problem that we all need to play our part in tackling.
Sarah Griffiths, the Outdoor Learning and Interpretation Manager for The Parks Trust said “Thank you to all those who took part. It’s great to see so many children and schools getting involved. We were really impressed by the entries this year, and the amount of votes they received from the public. Litter left in the parks gets into our lakes and rivers and pollutes the land. It would be fantastic if these posters could encourage people to take litter home, so wildlife is protected.”
Jennifer Wilson-Marklew, Cabinet Member for Waste at Milton Keynes City Council said, "We're delighted to be involved with the litter poster competition again this year and there have been some fantastic entries making it a tough decision for the judges! It's a great way to raise awareness to help keep our city free from litter."
The Parks Trust and MK City Council would like to say thank you and well done to all those who took part and for helping to spread the message about litter. Over 1,250 votes were cast for the top ten finalists listed below:
