More than 35 local residents turned out for a morning of tree planting on the land surrounding the Wavendon Hub community recreation grounds in Wavendon yesterday.
Sponsored by Wavendon Parish Council and supported through the supply of trees and grant aid by Martson Vale Forest, more 700 trees and hedge bushes were planted over the course of four hours which have transformed the look and feel of the land bordering the community soccer pitches and parish hub meeting place.
The planting is funded through the Forest of Marston Vale Trust’s Trees for Climate programme, a five-year woodland creation programme which is part of the national government-led Nature for Climate Fund.
“We’re delighted to havedeveloped a scheme that helps deliver Wavendon Parish Councils community and environmental objectives," said Cllr David Hopkins, Chairman of Wavendon Parish Council, "This project is a great example of how the Marston Forest Trees for Climate programmecan make planting trees and creating new woodland a straightforward process for landowners such as a local parish council such as Wavendon.”
