Milton Keynes City Council warns be aware of cold callers

They’re urging everyone to stay cautious following reports of rogue traders operating across our city.

They’ve recently supported residents who were approached at their doors by traders offering roof tile replacement, loft insulation, driveway cleaning, and other home improvements. These traders often pressure people into accepting work on the spot, fail to provide proper quotes or paperwork, and leave behind poor-quality jobs that lead to expensive repairs.

In some cases, there was no evidence the work needed doing at all. Some rogue traders use storms and bad weather to convince people that hidden damage has occurred, even when it hasn’t.

Please look out for these warning signs:

    • ‘Too good to be true’ quotes that are only available that day
    • Services offered at the door
    • No written quotes
    • Requests for cash payments
    • Asking for money up front

The Council regularly investigate rogue traders and can take them to court. If found guilty, they could face up to two years in prison and an unlimited fine. To stay safe, we encourage you to use approved traders listed on Buy With Confidence.

If you experience any suspicious knocks on the door or receive offers that seem unusual or untrustworthy, please report them to us by calling 0808 223 1133.
