Milton Keynes City Council wants to recruit its 100th library volunteer - could that be you?

As part of its I Love My Library campaign, the City Council is on the lookout for its 100th library volunteer.

Volunteers play an important role across MK’s 10 libraries from helping to arrange book stock to guiding library users who need extra help.

Many volunteers also get involved in community activities, such as Conversation Club sessions that help people practice spoken English or Stay and Play groups for young children. Others help run events and support the day‑to‑day running of busy library spaces.

There is plenty to do, too - the City Council is planning to hold a record 2,500 events for all ages across its libraries.

The City Council is especially keen to hear from would-be volunteers who enjoy meeting people as well as loving books.

"Our library volunteers make a huge difference every day," said Councillor Joe Hearnshaw, Cabinet Member for Children and Young People, "They help people feel welcome, confident and connected, and find it really rewarding. Reaching our 100th volunteer will be a fantastic milestone, and I'd encourage anyone who has a little time to spare to get involved."

While the city’s libraries are already very well used, the City Council hopes the I Love My Library campaign will encourage even more local people to pop into their local library and be surprised by the range of things to do there.

Last year, it invested in modernising its city centre library including a new and expanded children’s library on the ground floor, a new lift and major upgrades to its roof.  Further work is now underway which will enable the building to accommodate an even wider range of events, activities and community groups.
