Milton Keynes City Council to give extra support to families during school holidays

With the winter school holidays approaching, Milton Keynes City Council has announced a programme of free activity sessions and meals to give extra support to families during the break.

The activity sessions are exclusively available to school aged children, young people, and their families in receipt of benefit related Free School Meals.

A large range of indoor and outdoor activities have been organised, which include theatre trips, arts and crafts, film-making and multi-sports camps.

In all, 7,000 individual play sessions will be running across the new city between December 29 and January 2.

“We’re offering some brilliant experiences for young people and their families,” said Councillor Joe Hearnshaw, Cabinet Member for Children and Young People, “By working with local partners across the city, we’ve managed to create a really varied package of activities and healthy food. We hope this will help families who may be looking for extra support during the school holidays.

"Please encourage friends and family who may be eligible to check out our programme.”

Eligible families simply need to browse the online programme and contact providers directly to make a booking.

Most of the activities take place within four-hour sessions and include  meals unless stated on the programme.  Most providers will be able to cater their events for attendees with special educational needs or disabilities.

The city council is working with 17 local clubs, schools, charities and organisations to provide the activities as well as holding events across its 10 Family Centres and Music Hub.
