Milton Keynes charity win gold at SME MK & Buckinghamshire Business Awards

Harry’s Rainbow has won the GOLD award for Community Business of the Year alongside founder and CEO Odette winning the GOLD award for Lockdown Leader at the SME MK & Buckinghamshire Business awards.

The past 18 months have been a challenge for us all and attending the awards evening alongside the other finalists was a special way for local charity, Harry's Rainbow, to celebrate and be proud of not just facing those challenges but using every opportunity to turn a negative into a positive.

CEO and Founder of Harry's Rainbow, Odette Mould says, "We truly believe that this is how we have survived and thrived though this period of uncertainty by adapting existing services, creating new ones and exploring other means of establishing income to ensure our beneficiaries remained supported. We also re visited and changed our mission, vision and values, and our strategy which led to a transfer of legal structure to prepare us for the future."

With the charity facing an increase in registrations of 25% this year, the team employed a Family Liaison Officer to directly support all beneficiaries and plan for their post pandemic phase of transforming their Rainbow groups, from 9 per year to 24 per year including extending support to young adults up to 25 years old.

Odette continues, "We believe grief is a non-linear journey which is represented through our work with families, by not setting a clear pathway through our services but access to them at times suitable and appropriate to the families’ needs.

"In the Autumn of 2021 we celebrate the 10th year of Harry’s Rainbow, which coincides with Jessica’s (Harry’s twin sibling) 18th Birthday and so winning these awards has come at a really poignant time for us. In 10 years we have supported over 450 children. Our work also supports their families, carers and schools."

Despite the pandemic affecting plans for an Autumn ball in 2021, Harry's Rainbow have some exciting announcements, including the unveiling of a new logo as well as a new product, with ambitions to bring the long awaited 10th Birthday ball to the Autumn of 2022!
