A Milton Keynes wellbeing charity has turned leftover greenery from tree work into Christmas wreaths, thanks to a donation from Browns Tree Solutions.
The Hope and Wellbeing Hub in Milton Keynes ran a festive wreath making class using fresh branches and foliage supplied by Browns from recent tree jobs in the area. Instead of imported greenery or plastic decorations, participants created their own wreaths from local trees, enjoyed time together and took home something they had made by hand.
Browns Tree Solutions regularly looks for ways to put logs, branches and woodchip to good use, rather than treating them as waste that simply disappears on a lorry.
"Whenever we prune or remove a tree, there is the materials left to sort; I have always seen this as a resource, not rubbish" said Browns Tree Solutions owner Ray Brown, “If the wood and greenery can be recycled into something new like logs to heat your homes, stumps for seating at an event, or a wreath on someone’s front door, that is a much better outcome than it going straight to disposal, which is why I started our sister business back in 2012: Firewood Fuel MK.”
At the Hope and Wellbeing Hub, the wreath session was about more than decorations. It gave people a chance to slow down, work with natural materials and connect with others at what can be a difficult time of year.
"The mix of foliage and natural nuts was beautiful, and everyone commented on how amazing it looked and smelled," said a spokesperson, “The room was full of that fresh, woodland scent and people could not stop talking about how special it felt to create something by hand. We are so grateful for the support, it made a real difference to everyone who came along.”
Browns Tree Solutions is inviting other local schools, community groups and small businesses in the Milton Keynes area to get in touch if they think they can use logs, woodchip or greenery for suitable projects.
