Milton Keynes charity opens kitchen to support victims of devastating fire

A Walnut Tree-based charity opened up its kitchen to offer support to the families affected by last week's devastating fire.

Local charity MK SNAP opened their doors this week to support the community in Walnut Tree following the awful fire that devastated homes and a nursery.

Working in partnership with Walton Community Support Project, the charity opened up its café kitchen to keep vital food supplies from going into landfill and worked in partnership to help distribute to those in need.

Angie Novell, CEO MK SNAP, said "MK SNAP is a charity that has the community at it’s heart so it was clearly an easy decision to help bring something positive out of such tragedy."

Charlie Deycon from WCSP; praised the collaboration saying "I am delighted that we have been able to work closely with MK SNAP, in order to deliver food parcels to the residents affected by the fire. The coming together of two charities to achieve a common goal, has been fantastic to be a part of. Huge thanks must go out to Angie Novell & team at SNAP, for throwing open the doors and welcoming us in with open arms."

Residents have been rallying together in support for the victims of a large fire that destroyed a local nursery and homes.

The fire left three homes and a nursery completely destroyed.

A total of 39 properties were evacuated and at its peak, 15 fire engines were on the scene from across Buckinghamshire, Oxfordshire, Northamptonshire and Bedfordshire.

Many surrounding homes were also left without power or electricity, as a result of the blaze.

Residents were quick to offer a wide range of support including clothes, food, drink and rooms to those who may be in need. It wasn't long until a JustGiving page was launched, by the Walton Community Project, in a bid to support those affected.

In just a few days, £6,777 has been raised to help support the victims.
