Milton Keynes charity biker completes five nations tour

Lynn raises £5000 after three weeks in the saddle.

A Milton Keynes woman who took on the ride of her lifetime – cycling alone and unsupported through all five nations of the UK for charity – has completed her journey.

Lynn McBrearty, a long-standing member of the YMCA MK community, set off early this month to ride more than 2000 miles through England, Scotland, Northern Ireland, the Republic of Ireland and Wales, relying solely on her own pedal power and determination

Her journey across mountains, coasts, cities and countryside was to raise vital funds for YMCA Milton Keynes and to support young people facing homelessness.

Last night she finished the epic ride in heavy rain, tired but elated.

“I have finished my five nations cycling challenge,” she told MKFM. “I have cycled for 23 consecutive days, covering 2000 miles.

“The weather conditions proved to be challenging with high winds when I cycled through Cumbria, the Lake District and Scotland. But I have raised £5,500 for YMCA Milton Keynes.”

Lynn, 61, left home as a teenager and lived in YMCA accommodation from 17 years old. Today she still has great respect for the organisation and its staff.

“This is about more than just me and my bike,” Lynn adds. “It’s about standing with young people who’ve faced the toughest times and showing them that their community cares.”
