Local jobs on the cards as gaming centre gets new owners.
One of Milton Keynes’ most popular leisure venues is set to reopen, months after its former owners went into administration and shut the doors.
The Casino MK, in the city’s busy Xscape leisure complex, has been acquired by Milton Keynes-based bingo and adult gaming company Merkur Casino UK, who say the move will ‘create local jobs as a result’.
The venue was previously operated by Aspers Group but closed down last April after the company entered administration.
This is Merkur’s second casino project in the UK following the successful launch of a similar offering in Aberdeen in 2023. The move underlines the company’s continued investment in the UK gaming industry and its commitment to supporting the high street as well as creating local jobs.
Preparations are underway to open in ‘the coming months’ says Merkur.
“We are pleased to have the opportunity to bring The Casino MK into the Merkur family,” said Mark Schertle, the company’s chief operating officer.
“Our aim is to get the casino open again as quickly and smoothly as possible, and we are, of course, particularly proud to be bringing more jobs to Milton Keynes, which is also the home of our headquarters.
“Our experience in Aberdeen has shown there is a strong appetite for the kind of experience we deliver – a blend of premium gaming, hospitality, and entertainment. We look forward to bringing that same approach to Milton Keynes.”
