Milton Keynes business wins award alongside Mick Jagger and Eddie Izzard

The Institute of Certified Bookkeepers (ICB), the largest bookkeeping institute in the world, hosted its annual LUCA Awards on Monday as well as celebrating the institute’s 25th anniversary.

The awards recognise the outstanding achievements of those in the bookkeeping profession.

To help celebrate 25 years, a special honorary Companionship of ICB award was introduced this year, with 25 people that have made an impact on the industry being awarded. Former bookkeeper turned rock and roll legend Mick Jagger was named, alongside comedian Eddie Izzard who trained in accountancy.

Company Xero from Milton Keynes won bookkeeping software of the year at the awards.

The ceremony also saw Mick Jagger and Eddie Izzard awarded an Honorary Companionship.

The LUCA Awards themselves are exclusive statuettes of Luca Pacioli, the Cistercian monk who is credited with first documenting the process of double-entry bookkeeping that endures today.

This year these prestigious awards are moulded in silver to celebrate the Silver 25th  Anniversary of ICB's inception.

It was not until 1st November 1996 that bookkeepers could gain the professional designation Certified Bookkeeper and begin to be truly recognised as professionals in their own right. Garry and June Carter created the ICB with the support of the then Small Business Minister, and the organisation gained HRH Prince Michael of Kent as its Royal Patron.
