Police forced to abandon security event to give chase.
Thames Valley Police have apologised to cyclists today after cancelling today’s bike marking security event at short notice.
But they say they had no choice in the matter – four wanted people were spotted nearby, and the officers were dispatched to give chase and arrest them.
“We’re really sorry that today’s bike marking event outside Midsummer Place, Central MK was cancelled without due notice,” said a police spokesperson on social media.
“This was due to spontaneous operational commitments beyond the control of the officers due to attend. Our keen and eagle-eyed CCTV operators spotted a grand total of four wanted persons on their cameras all at the same time and all in the vicinity of the officers, who then had the task of giving chase and arresting them.
“We completely understand this may have caused disappointment or wasted travel, and we sincerely apologise for any inconvenience caused. Unfortunately, due to the very nature of policing, these things – although rare – do happen.
“We will always try to accommodate and make alternate arrangements where possible, it is just unfortunate that this happened when and where it did and that it disrupted the event. Again, we apologise and hope you understand.”
More bike marking events have been planned for Midsummer Place bike racks: 9am-12pm: Thursday 14th August, Thursday 11th September and Thursday 9th October.
