Local figures gathered yesterday to celebrate the submission of Milton Keynes bid for European Capital of Culture in 2023.
The title will be awarded to a location in Hungary and the UK, with competing bids from our country including Belfast, Dundee, Nottingham and Leeds.
If Milton Keynes is successful, it would make us the youngest European Capital of Culture in history.
It is predicted an additional 500 jobs and £200million of investment into the local economy will be ignited if the bid is successful.
However, the process is complicated by the UK's planned withdrawal from the European Union, which is scheduled to happen in March 2019.
Government figures say that UK bids for the title will be subject to successful exit negotiations before departure.
Many locals are optimistic however, with at least two non-EU cities having been awarded the title in the past.
The winner will be announced in 2019.
