A local business using one of MK Council’s fully electric e-cargo bikes has clocked up its 500th clean mile as a result.
ReSync Deliveries in Olney took on a Council e-cargo bike in July and has been using it instead of a petrol powered vehicle to make all their local deliveries.
The firm covers around 50 miles each week, and has so far cut out 175kg in carbon emissions.
MK Council owns 21 e-cargo bikes, of which it makes 12 available to lease by local firms, community groups and parish and town councils.
The goal is to make e-bikes affordable for local organisations who might not be able to afford the upfront costs to buy one. Many e-cargo bikes cost £5,000 and above.
Cllr Jenny Wilson-Marklew, Cabinet Member for Climate Action and Sustainability at MK Council said: “We’re pleased to provide opportunities like these to help more local businesses and organisations act positively for our environment.
"These e-cargo bikes are great for making ‘last mile’ trips and deliveries as they don’t put any greenhouse gases into the environment, they take up less space to park than a car or van, and they can even be branded with a company logo so you can make a statement to your customers too.”
ReSync Deliveries was launched by Helen Knight, along with an online emporium, to make shopping with local businesses in Olney easier.
