History is made as Ben Lane and Sean Vendy become the first English men’s doubles pair to reach a World Tour semi-final.

On Friday (29/01), the English pair (who trained at Milton Keynes’ National Badminton Centre) managed to beat Malaysian’s Ony Yew Sin and Teo Ee Yi.

Lane gave comments on the pair’s performance during the game, as he said: “It was a great result. We started off the first set a bit slow, but then we found our rhythm.

“You have to keep working; it’s never short rallies. Everyone is attacking and defending so well.

“It was a case of staying really disciplined in that match.”

Vendy described his thoughts surrounding the match, as he said: “It was probably one of the biggest matches of our career, whoever wins that game goes through the group stage to the semi-final of arguably the biggest tournament in the calendar year.

“We were probably underdogs on paper, but we know we’ve been playing really well the last 3 weeks, so we were confident going into it.

When asked how he felt as he reached the semi-final, Vendy added: “It’s hard to put into words how I’m feeling at the moment. We’ve never done this well in such a big tournament.

“We will see what the draw brings tomorrow, but we are just going to give it our all as we do every time we step on the court.”
