Man sentenced to 13 years following grooming and sexual activity.
A Milton Keynes-based assistant referee has been jailed after pleading guilty to 16 counts of child sex offences.
Gareth Viccars, 47, of Oldbrook, was yesterday sentenced to 13 and a half years for a string of offences including sexual communications with a child, meeting with a child following sexual grooming, causing or inciting a child to engage in sexual activity and engaging in sexual activity with a child.
He has also been handed a further three and a half years on extended licence by Snaresbrook Crown Court following the offences, which took place between 2021 and 2024.
Viccars was featuring as an assistant referee during the times of the offences. The organisation responsible for referees in English football, the Professional Game Match Officials Limited, have removed Viccars from their officiators’ list, it is understood.
