Met Office issues yellow weather warning for thunderstorms across Milton Keynes

The Met Office has today (20/08) put in place a yellow weather warning for thunderstorms across many parts of the UK.

Met Office warns that heavy showers and thunderstorms may cause some transport disruption and perhaps flooding.

Thunderstorms can occur at any time of the year but it is during the summer months when thunderstorms in the UK are most likely to produce large hail, gusty winds and torrential downpours that can cause disruption to transport networks and damage property.

The storms are predicted between 12:00 and 22:00 on Saturday 21st August.

    What to expect

    • There is a good chance driving conditions will be affected by spray, standing water and/or hail, leading to longer journey times by car and bus

    • Delays to train services are possible

    • Some short term loss of power and other services is possible, with possible damage due to lightning strikes

    • Flooding of a few homes and businesses could occur.
