Mayor of Milton Keynes' Christmas Quiz raises nearly £5,000 for local charities

The Mayor of Milton Keynes' Virtual Christmas Quiz has raised nearly £5,000 for two local charities.

The free quiz, which is the first of its kind, took place via Zoom on Wednesday (9/11) and saw 65 teams take part.

Cllr Andrew Geary, the Mayor, chose two charities to raise funds for during the quiz - these charities were the MK Dons Sports & Education Trust and Thames Valley Air Ambulance.

MKFM's very own Darren, from the MK Breakfast Show, hosted the evening to ensure that things were kept in order and to provide some entertainment during the breaks.

Cllr Geary opened the evening with a warm welcome and then passed over to the Star of the show, the Quizmaster, Jayden Halliday.

Throughout the night, participants managed to hear from both charities which really added an element of emotion as to why they were all there. And halfway through, they checked how many raffle tickets had been bought which amounted to a whopping £1,200.

A local company called Intu Veritas, out of the blue, decided to match whatever was raised on the night. Knowing that Barclays were matching everything raised as well, this brought the total shooting up to just shy of £5,000.

Dean Bowditch, Community & Friends of the Trust Ambassador for the MK Dons SET, said: "Thank you to everyone that donated a raffle prize for the evening, MK Dons FC, Thames Valley Air Ambulance, Yokohama, AquaParcs, Tompkins Butchers, Willen Observation Wheel (WOW), Mayor of MK, Angela Deacon and Tim Lee. And well done to all of our winners.

"Well done to our 1st, 2nd and 3rd place winners who won 4 tickets to MK Dons Game, 6 bottles of wine and a Brioche Pasquier Hamper.

"An amazing evening that couldn’t of been done without everyone working together. 2 hours of fantastic fun with the highlight of the night being the re-enactment of the all time classic “Dirty Dancing” Scene that went terribly wrong!!

"Well done everyone and have a Merry Christmas and a prosperous 2021."
