Man jailed in connection with attempted burglary in Milton Keynes

Kaine Smith, aged 25, of Coyne Road, West Bromwich, was sentenced to a year in prison following a hearing at Aylesbury Crown Court on Friday, in connection with an attempted burglary in the new city.

He had previously pleaded guilty to one count of attempted burglary following a hearing at the same court on 5 November last year.

At around 10.40pm on 2 January last year, the victim, a man in his thirties, heard noises in his back garden and saw Smith climb over his fence and attempt to open the back door of his home.

Smith was arrested two days later and was charged with the offence on 16 July.

“We welcome the sentence and I hope it provides reassurance to the public that this sort of behaviour will not be tolerated," said investigating officer Detective Constable Sarah Humfrey, of the Milton Keynes Priority Crime Team.

“This incident had a significant impact on the victim and his family, causing them to feel unsafe in their own home.

“We thank the victim, and his family, for their resilience and patience throughout this court process, and we hope this outcome gives them some sense of comfort.”
