A local man has been jailed for more than three years after he was convicted of possessing an imitation firearm.
Adam Curtis, aged 48, of Shackleton Place, Oldbrook, Milton Keynes, pleaded guilty to one count of possessing an imitation firearm with intent to cause fear of violence, in a hearing at Amersham Crown Court on Tuesday 16 February.
He appeared at the same court on Wednesday (14/4) and was subsequently jailed for three years and two months. He was also given an indefinite restraining order against the victim.
The court heard how the victim confronted Curtis at approximately 9pm on 19 September 2020, outside her property, after he began verbally abusing her from his property across the street.
Curtis then proceeded to brandish what the victim believed to be a real firearm and began threatening her with it, resulting in the victim fearing for her life.
A weapon was located by officers outside of Curtis’ property, which was later determined to be an imitation firearm.
He was charged with the offence on 20 September 2020.
Investigating officer Detective Constable Serena Bellis of Milton Keynes CID, said: “This was an unprovoked and horrifying incident that happened to a young woman who was simply trying to defuse a situation that was getting out of control within her local area.
“She genuinely feared for her life, believing the weapon she was being threatened with was real and that she would be shot. This has significantly affected the victim since, but she has showed immense courage coming forward and giving evidence, resulting in a positive outcome.
“We will never tire to bring those to justice who seek to place other people in fear, and Curtis will now serve a custodial sentence as a result of his criminal activity.”
