A man has been arrested for a warrant in connection with a murder in Milton Keynes.
Umar Farooq, aged 46, of no fixed abode, was detained under a Warrant of First Instance at Heathrow Airport today (Jan 13), having travelled into the United Kingdom from Pakistan, via Uzbekistan.
The warrant is in relation to the murder of Atiq Rehman in The Square in Wolverton, Milton Keynes, on 15 May 2007.
Farooq is due to appear at Milton Keynes Magistrates’ Court tomorrow (14/1).
“The murder of Atiq Rehman in 2007 had a significant impact on communities in Milton Keynes at the time, so I understand that news of this arrest and a defendant appearing in court could be difficult for some," said Policing Commander for Milton Keynes, Chief Superintendent Emma Baillie.
“Due to the ongoing court proceedings, we won’t be able to provide any further details on the case, this is to ensure there is a fair trial. However, we have strong relationships across all our communities and partners within the city and we will be reaching out to listen and support you. If you have any concerns please speak to us.”
