Man arrested after group seen 'brandishing machetes' at Westcroft District Centre

A man has been sentenced to imprisonment and made subject to a Criminal Behaviour Order after being convicted of affray in Milton Keynes.

Alex Findlay, aged 19, of Bronte Avenue, Milton Keynes, pleaded guilty to one count of affray at Aylesbury Crown Court on Monday (10/9).

At around 3.30pm on Monday 14 May this year, police were called to reports of men and teenage boys running around the Westcroft District Centre in Milton Keynes brandishing weapons, including machetes.

Findlay was arrested on 15 May and was charged with one count of affray on 17 July.

At the same court hearing, Findlay was jailed for 10 months.

The terms of his Criminal Behaviour, which is in place for three years, are that he must not associate or communicate with a named individual, he must not approach, threaten, intimidate or communicate directly with three other people, and must not act in a manner that causes, or is likely to cause harassment, alarm or distress, namely, to threaten, intimidate, fight, shout, swear or be verbally abusive to any other person in the area of Milton Keynes.

He is also banned from entering the Westcroft area.

Investigating officer PC Tom Hughes, based at Bletchley police station, said: “I hope that this sentence delivers a positive message to the community that anybody intimidating and threatening violence will be dealt with robustly."

“Thames Valley Police does not tolerate such behaviour and we will deal with anyone carrying, using or threatening people with offensive weapons and bring them to justice."

“I would urge members of the public who have any concerns of this nature to report them via 101 or 999 in an emergency.”
