M1 near Milton Keynes reopens after 'serious' accident results in over 10 hours of road closure

The M1 Northbound between J14 and J15 has reopened after a 'serious' road traffic collision resulted in over 10 hours of the road's closure.

Thames Valley Police and Highways England were called to reports of a crash on the motorway shortly after 12am this morning (10/8).

The Southbound carriageway remained closed until 4am, while the Northbound carriageway has only just reopened at around 10:30am.

This closure was in place to ensure that police officers could conduct investigations at the scene.

Road users had been directed to use the diversion route along the A5 to travel north, which resulted in severe congestion in the lead up to the Old Stratford Roundabout.

As of 11:07, congestion on the A5 is easing but there are still delays of up to 15 minutes. You can find the latest travel times by visiting the AA Route Planner here

The extent of the crash is unknown and MKFM has contacted Thames Valley Police for more information.
