Long delays expected on M1 near Milton Keynes due to a vehicle fire

    Two lanes remain closed for emergency repairs as a result of a vehicle fire that took place last night.

    Traffic was temporarily stopped at around 11:45pm last night (19/8), after a vehicle fire broke out on the M1 southbound between J13 and J12.

    Bedfordshire, Cambridgeshire and Hertfordshire Roads Policing Unit attended the scene alongside Bedfordshire Fire Control.

    2 lanes remain closed for emergency repairs as a result of the fire and maintenance Crews are currently at the scene.

    National Highways said in their latest update this morning: "Please allow extra journey time this morning, if you're heading M1 southbound Bedfordshire. 1 lane open between J13 Woburn to J12 Toddington due to emergency resurfacing work.

    "There is approx. 5.5 miles of congestion. Please add an extra 45 minutes on to your journey."

    Delays are also expected on the A509 (Milton Keynes) and J12 A5120 Harlington Road (Flitwick).
