Local super swimmers set world record for children’s charity

Organised by the Children’s Activities Association, the world record attempt was part of a national campaign to ‘get the UK moving’, with CBeebies star, Sid Sloane at the helm.

On Monday 30th April, at precisely 10.15am, youngsters at Water Babies in Milton Keynes were dancing, singing and splashing their way into the record books as part of Children’s Activity Week.

During their weekly swimming sessions at the Holiday Inn in Milton Keynes, little swimmers and their parents joined in on the world record attempt, which aimed to get as many children as possible to do the ‘Copy Sid’ song. Children’s Activity Week ambassador, Sid Sloane – any toddler who knows their CBeebies stuff, knows Sid – lead the song and dance session, live on social media. Dressed in their very best super hero costumes, newborns, toddlers and pre-schoolers from across Milton Keynes splashed along with Sid.

The following day, the man himself surprised the swimmers at Clophill Pool in Luton, to thank all of the little swimmers for their help. Sid, who spent Children’s Activity Week touring the UK and visiting as many fundraisers as possible, even joined teacher Teresa and her little swimmers in the pool, encouraging them to keep up their good work in being active.

Tamsin Brewis, who owns Water Babies Bucks and Beds, is proud to support an organisation that puts such significance on two things that are very close to her heart; children’s charities and children’s health, “Having fun, splashing around in the pool and being part of the world record was really exciting for the little ones, and all for a great cause too. Children’s Activity Week is about getting children to take part in fun and energetic activities – at Water Babies, we wholeheartedly support that message, and will support the cause in any way we can. Thank you to all of the little swimmers, mums, dads and grandparents who took part. We’re so excited that we set the world record!”

Everyone who took part donated £1 to Children’s Activity Week’s nominated cause, Caudwell Children’s Charity. Water Babies Bucks and Beds also asked parents to bring along a pre-loved pair of shoes for nine-year-old Miyla, from Milton Keynes, who collects second hand shoes for deserving recipients in Zimbabwe and Ghana.

Lots of Water Babies swimmers didn’t have classes during the world record attempt but Tamsin and her team were determined that they wouldn’t miss out on the fun! Children’s Activity Week ran from Monday 30th April until Friday 4th May and included a campaign called #WatchMeFly where children were encouraged to don their very best superhero ensembles. Tamsin turned all Water Babies classes in the region into fancy dress for the week! The result was lots of little Bat-toddlers, Supergirls and Spider-pre-schoolers bobbing about in the pool, with everyone raising money and donating pre-loved shoes.

On final count, 7,836 children and parents took part in the nationwide world record attempt. Tamsin’s little swimmers, along with hundreds of children across Bedfordshire and Buckinghamshire dressing in cloaks, masks and other ‘disguises’ to encourage other children to get out there and get active, are the true superheroes of Children’s Activity Week.
