Local McDonald's franchisee to complete 24 mile litter pick in MK

As McDonald’s returns to 24 hours this Friday in Milton Keynes, local franchisee Ken Tomkins is heading out on his annual 24 mile litter pick around the city and calling on local residents to get involved via a virtual challenge, using the hashtag #LoveMKHateLitter.

This year would have seen Ken and Team Kaizen, who operate six McDonald's stores in Milton Keynes, take part in the eighth 24 Hour Litter Pick, but social distancing restrictions meant this had to be cancelled.

The team have been busy taking part in a seven day litter picking challenge using the hashtag #LoveMKHateLitter, with dozens of local residents getting involved. Ken’s seven day challenge quickly extended to 14 days, and shows no sign of stopping!

On Friday, Ken will set off from McDonald’s in Xscape, and will take in a 24 mile loop around Milton Keynes, calling in at each of the local McDonald’s stores along the route. This time, instead of calling on volunteers to join him in person, he’s inviting local residents to fill a bag with rubbish on the day, in a bid to collect 100 bags of litter across the city.

Ken said, “Usually on 24 July, we’d be heading off on a 24 hour litter pick surrounded by dozens of volunteers from across the city. Usually we would collect hundreds of bags of rubbish during the litter pick, and have a good laugh! I’ll struggle to collect that many bags of rubbish by myself, and I’d love it if the local community could join me virtually and fill a bag of litter at some point during the day so we can make the biggest impact on our city.”

Residents can join in with the litter pick virtually using the hashtag #LoveMKHateLitter, and can join the Love MK Hate Litter Facebook group to find out more.
