Community leaders attend annual community Iftar at Wolverton Mosque

A number of local community leaders, including new LPA Commander for Milton Keynes Yvette Hitch and MKFM's Managing Director Darren Dorrington, attended the annual community Iftar at Wolverton Mosque last night.

During the festivities, Willen Hospice was presented with a cheque for £1,600 by former Mayor Subhan Shafiq. The money was collected by the congregation who donated generously during the event.

MKFM Managing Director Darren Dorrington said ''I was delighted to be invited and speak at the event. I heard first hand a number of concerns from the Muslim community following the attacks in London and Manchester. It was important for me to confirm that the local media in Milton Keynes have a role to play to ensure Milton Keynes remains one community, at peace and diverse. Most intelligent people know and understand that the recent attacks have nothing to do with the Muslim community."

The Imam for Wolverton, Umar Manzoor accepted an invitation to appear on MKFM next month to further discuss the challenges facing the community here in Milton Keynes.
