Local councillor secures nearly half a million pounds funding for a 'green Bletchley'

Cllr Elaine Wales (Lab, Bletchley Park) has worked with West Bletchley Parish Council to secure almost £500,000 investment for improvements to Rickley Park.

The initial improvements to Rickley Park include new pathways, wildflower planting, installation of outdoor gym equipment and new litter and dog bins.

Cllr Elaine Wales said: “The decision to upgrade and improve Rickley Park highlights our local commitment to ‘greening Bletchley’ and protecting open spaces from development and improving the local parks”

The improvements build on the success of nearby Chepstow Drive, which is 4 hectares of open space. Chepstow Drive became a ‘Green Flag’ park in 2007 and Leon Park in Central Bletchley also became a ‘Green Flag’ park in 2011.

Cllr Wales added: “We want to build upon the success of Chepstow Drive Park and Leon Park and create a wonderful open space that meets the needs of local people. Once the work is completed we’re hoping to secure the Green Flag status for Rickley Park as well.

“As well as improving local parks I want to see the creation of a natural corridor for walkers and cyclists running from the Blue Lagoon to Chepstow Park. This proposal is being fed into the Plans for Bletchley renewal and I have submitted the proposal  to West Bletchley Parish Council.

“I am committed to protecting and improving Bletchley’s open spaces and I am proud of our improvements to Rickley Park. Let’s get that Green Flag and reinforce our commitment to ‘Greening Bletchley’."
