MK Storm Watch

Storm Doris hit Milton Keynes today and caused major disruption to the road and public transport networks across MK.

This page has the latest updates as of 6pm on Thursday 23rd February.

    Roads

More than 20 fallen trees reported to us are being dealt with by MK Council staff. The affected locations so far include:

    Bradville (Crispin Road),
    Bradwell (Cruddock Close),
A5130 (between Woburn and Woburn Sands),
    Simpson Road (towards Fenny Stratford),
    Willen Road (towards A422),
Newport Road (adjacent to Turnpike Court)

There is also a lot of debris across the road network so take care when driving in these conditions.

    - Newport Road, Woburn is still closed after a tree fell onto a power cable - utilities are in attendance to fix the issue

    - The Council will be closing section of Avebury Boulevard around Jaipur Restaurant as the dome on the building is unsafe due to high winds

    - The A413 Near Swanborne and Winslow is closed - take an alternative route

    Trains

Those with no choice but to travel today are urged to check beforehand on National Rail and to expect delays.

Hundreds of high wind-related incidents were being tackled today by Network Rail’s orange army engineers - from trampolines, chairs and trees blown on tracks to bags blowing on to overhead power lines.

With blanket speed limits of 50mph imposed for safety reasons, London Midland said customers with tickets for today could use them on specified services tomorrow. It advised its customers “not to travel today if possible.”

Meanwhile on its West Coast franchise Virgin Trains “strongly advised anyone who can postpone their journey to do so,” adding: “Tickets for today will be accepted for journeys starting before 2pm tomorrow (Friday 24th), or anytime on Saturday.”

A spokesperson for Network Rail said: “Storm Doris is really causing us problems today. Please be assured we are doing all we can to keep the railway moving.”
