Our much-loved libraries are getting ready to welcome even more local people in 2026.
Milton Keynes City Council has announced plans to hold a record 2,500 events across its 10 libraries, with clubs and groups for residents of all ages.
As well as a massive collection of books, audio and digital titles, graphic novels, and free to use computers, MK’s libraries offer a wide range of free events, activities and regular clubs that help develop key skills and reduce social isolation - from creative workshops and Knit and Knatter groups to children’s Lego and Duplo club and digital skills sessions, there really is something for everyone.
MK’s libraries also host dedicated school visits, exhibitions from local artists and community events, receiving more than 500,000 visits in total last year.
Stony Stratford Library, which turned 50 in 2025, has welcomed more than 16,000 people to 325 events this year.
“Our libraries are at the heart of community life in Milton Keynes,” said Councillor Joe Hearnshaw, Cabinet Member for Children and Young People, “Places like Stony Stratford Library are so much more than the wonderful books they contain – this library has supported generations of families and continues to provide valuable services and help to local people. By offering even more events next year, we’re making sure residents of all ages can enjoy opportunities to learn, socialise and discover new interests.”
Earlier this year, the City Council invested in modernising its city centre library including a new and expanded children’s library on the ground floor, a new lift and major upgrades to its roof. Further work is now underway.
