A major regeneration programme in the Lakes Estate in Bletchley is set to be given the green light at a Milton Keynes City Council meeting tomorrow.
Proposals for almost 200 new council homes, a nursery, community centre and retail space will get underway subject to approval from city councillors on Tuesday 5 December.
Earlier this year, Milton Keynes City Council instructed builders Graham to finalise the detailed design work required and is now preparing to appoint Graham in order to build the new homes. The decision in December will give Graham all of the permissions required to begin work as early as January 2024.
Proposals for the Lakes Estate were given planning permission in March 2022, following extensive engagement with the local community which first began in 2017. In a ballot the following year, 93% of voters sought to demolish Serpentine Court and redevelop the estate. Some wider public realm work has already been completed with four new play parks and improvements to courtyards.
Cabinet Member for Adults, Housing and Healthy Communities, Cllr Emily Darlington said: “This is a momentous occasion for local people in the Lakes. These new homes will be for council tenants in Serpentine Court. There will also be some extra for other families waiting for a council home.
“Regeneration in the Lakes Estate is not just about building news homes. We are also making investments into the play areas and activities available. We are working with people to create a positive environment to raise their families.”
