John Cove awarded MK College Fellowship in SET's birthday year

The highest award available from Milton Keynes College has been bestowed upon John Cove, who has received the ‘Milton Keynes College Honorary Fellowship’ award for 2017.

In the citation, the College told John: “By awarding you the Honorary Fellowship we not only recognise your outstanding contribution within your field but also that you have lived and advocated the College’s values – Inspire, Excellence, Integrity, Respect and Innovate.”

They went on to say: “The Fellowship award is the highest honour that the College bestows and is given to a recipient who has made an outstanding contribution in their field. It is for individuals who have been recognised as standing out among their peers.

“Your contribution within community engagement including community football has been truly significant and regarded as such within and beyond your community or discipline.”

As well as being a fantastic honour for John, the award reflects favourably upon the work that the MK Dons SET and their staff have strived to achieve over the last 10 years in the fields of Health, Inclusion, Education and, of course Sport – particularly football!

John said: “Well, what can I say? I am so very humbled by this offer of a Fellowship which comes as a complete - but very welcome - surprise.

"To be honoured by an organisation that I really respect and value and that has made such a positive ongoing contribution to Milton Keynes in its own right makes it doubly humbling.”

John continued: “The fact it also comes during the 10th year of the SET is very timely as the ceremony precedes our week of celebration later in November, which is topped off by our Sporting Prom with Milton Keynes City Orchestra on the 17th.”

The Honorary Fellowship award will be presented to John at the Apprenticeship Graduation Ceremony, on Thursday 9th November at The Sculpture Gallery in Woburn Abbey, Bedfordshire.

To celebrate MK Dons Sport and Education Trust’s 10th Birthday and Milton Keynes’ 50th Anniversary, MK Dons SET presents a Sporting Prom, which will take place in Arena MK on Friday 17th November.

The evening will start with a performance from West End performers Thomas Cove and Katherine Skene with supporting performances from Arts1, Summerfield School and Winner of Song for MK – Paige Broadhurst.

The prom will be conducted by Damian Iorio and the Orchestra’s programme will feature well-known sporting themes that we’ll be linked to local sporting milestones. The soloists for the prom are Alex Tsilogianni and Thomas Cove.

Tickets are priced at £20 adults and £10 children, while a family ticket (two adults and two children) is available at £50. Tables of 10 are also available for £400.
