Independent business in Olney announces closure due to unpredictable climate

The Quirk Space in Olney has announced it is now permanently closed.

The Quick Space, in Olney, was a much-loved multi-use space with a vegan cafe and specialist food shop.

Owners of the business took to its Facebook Page yesterday (2/9), to announce the permanent closure.

"All good things come to an end," owner Hayley wrote.

"The Quirk Space CIC is now permanently closed.

"I'd like to take this opportunity to thank each and every one of you who supported The Quirk Space CIC...it has been a wonderful journey with many great achievements along the way and these moments are what I will continue to hold onto as I move forward into the unknown.

"I love a challenge, but I could never have predicted that business would have been affected by a global pandemic, Brexit, the Ukranian conflict and a cost of living crisis in the first three years of trading.

"I have loved every second of life as The Quirk Space and have given blood, sweat and tears for the past 3 years, but sadly it is now officially no longer viable to continue on in such an unpredictable and turbulent climate.

"The customers of The Quirk Space are all incredibly special to both me as an individual, as well as the team, and together we have loved providing you all with a safe, inclusive space that was fast becoming a creative hub in Olney, as well as serving lots of delicious food (that just happened to be vegan!)."

It comes after an independent food blogger, Sophie etc, wrote to local MPs expressing her concern for local businesses.

"After seeing two small businesses in MK close this week due to the rising energy costs, I am angry," Sophie wrote. "So I wrote a letter."
